- using a mobile network instead of hardware-oriented connection
- allowing smaller decentral assets to be part of grid stabilization
Sympower is taking part in a pilot organised by Dutch Transmission System Operator TenneT to explore how to open aFRR to independent, aggregated demand side resources. Sympower, as an independent aggregator, shows the benefits of the pilot by:
Sympower teamed up with Greensperad to make solar PR parks smarter and more profitable with curtailment.

![]() Sympower founder and CEO Simon Bushell is often approached as though leader on grid flexibility and demand response. Some example in the last few weeks:
![]() Sympower is working with leading European energy utility Vattenfall to help increase the amount of flexibility in Sweden’s energy market. The companies are working together to control approximately 60MW worth of assets of the country’s new fast frequency reserves (FFR), which has a total capacity of just under 70MW. The launch of FFR in the Nordics will enable more renewables to enter the market and help drive the energy transition. Read more... Sympower Raises €3 Million in Series A Funding Round to Scale Smart Energy Solutions Internationally1/10/2019
Sympower has raised €3 million in a Series A funding round from Dutch investment funds Social Impact Ventures and Participatiefonds Duurzame Economie Noord-Holland (PDENH), current investors and team. The capital will fund the further international roll-out of Sympower’s electricity grid balancing services following successful implementation on electricity markets in Finland and the Netherlands.

Electricity consumers in Sweden are now, thanks to the partnership between Vattenfall and Sympower, able to sell their flexibility to Svenska Kraftnät. Read more... Sympower was selected by the Israeli Ministry of Energy to lead and demonstrate the implementation of demand response and grid balancing services in Israel. Through this project, Sympower is helping shape the electricity market of the future, including investigating the necessary changes to regulations and infrastructure to enable DR services in Israel.

The pilot will start in January 2019 and will run for a period of two years during which a number of Sympower’s partners will provide flexibility through their controllable energy loads to one of TenneT's balancing markets, called 'automated Frequency Restoration Reserves’ (aFRR or ‘control power’).
At the moment, aFRR is mainly provided by conventional power plants, but the future of the energy landscape is changing and new solutions are needed. Read more... |
